Wenge

Working Properties

Wenge wood is a challenging type of wood to deal with and requires sharp tools. With a long coarse texture, the wood glues well only if done right after planing, scraping or sanding. It is a very porous wood though, so pore filling is essential if a fine finish is required. The wood is known to be toxic and can affect the workers handling the wood adversely.

Physical Properties

Wenge is medium brown in color, sometimes with a reddish or yellowish hue with black streaks. Upon application of a wood polish or finish, the wood color can turn almost black. The grain of the Wenge is straight and features a coarse texture and low natural luster.

Durability

Rated as very durable and is resistant to termite attack.
